The “Create a New Waterfall” feature allows you to filter traffic based on the user segmentation targeting rule you selected in the MAX ad unit page. Ineligible traffic will continue to use the Default Waterfall configuration.
Creating a New Waterfall
To begin, select MAX > Mediation > Manage > Ad Units in your MAX Dashboard. Select the ad unit for which you would like to create a new waterfall, and, in the Edit Ad Unit page that appears, click Create New Waterfall.
Type a name for your new waterfall and choose targeting options. You can target waterfalls based on the presence of a device identifier and the device type. Check the “Copy default waterfall when creating…” checkbox and click Create New Waterfall to perform the copy. Make sure to Save your changes after you finalize your changes.
Name your waterfalls with a taxonomy that reflects the start time for the waterfall and the user segment it belongs to. This helps you keep track of the segments you will create in the future. You can create up to eight unique waterfalls for your ad unit.
After you create your new waterfall, you can create a new A/B test for that waterfall, preview the configuration that serves for each country, or delete the waterfall (which will revert its traffic to using your Default Waterfall).
Cloning an Existing Waterfall
To clone an existing waterfall, first select MAX > Mediation > Manage > Ad Units in your MAX Dashboard. Select the ad unit for which you would like to clone in an existing waterfall, and, in the Edit Ad Unit page that appears, click Clone Existing Waterfalls.
Select from waterfalls to clone from a dropdown list of waterfalls under the same OS and format as your ad unit:
By default, network enablement, geo targeting, and CPM settings are copied. If you want to clone network placement IDs as well, check the box at the bottom next to “Copy all network placement IDs as well.” This only copies placement-level IDs, not app-level IDs.
Direct sold campaigns are not copied. Waterfalls with an active waterfall test cannot be cloned.
Click the Clone Waterfalls button to complete cloning. After you clone your waterfalls, you return to the Edit Ad Unit page to continue editing your waterfall before you save changes.
